Description
Sweet apples meet fragrant thyme in this Apple Thyme Jam, a unique preserve that’s perfect for breakfast, cheese boards, or as a glaze for meats. Simple, versatile, and utterly delicious!
Ingredients
4 cups apples, peeled and finely chopped (about 4 medium; Honeycrisp or Fuji recommended)
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
2 tsp lemon zest
1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves, finely chopped
1 cup apple juice or cider
3 cups granulated sugar
1 box (1.75 oz) fruit pectin (Sure-Jell or Certo)
2–3 fresh thyme sprigs (optional, for steeping in jars)
Instructions
-
Prep Apples – Peel, core, and finely chop apples until you have about 4 cups.
-
Add Citrus & Herbs – Measure lemon juice, zest, and finely chop thyme leaves.
-
Combine in Pot – In a large pot, add apples, lemon juice, lemon zest, thyme, and apple juice/cider. Stir well.
-
Add Sugar & Pectin – Stir in sugar and pectin until the sugar starts to dissolve.
-
Bring to Boil – Over medium-high heat, cook while stirring until the mixture reaches a rolling boil that doesn’t stop when stirred.
-
Boil to Set – Continue boiling for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
-
Fill Jars – Ladle hot jam into clean, warm jars. Add thyme sprigs if desired.
-
Seal & Cool – Wipe rims, apply lids, and let cool. Jam thickens as it cools.
-
Store – Refrigerate for up to 3 weeks, or process in a water bath canner for long-term storage.
Notes
Use Honeycrisp or Fuji apples for natural sweetness and texture.
For a stronger herbal note, steep thyme sprigs directly in jars.
