Description
Warm up with a hearty Hamburger Stew! Tender ground beef, savory vegetables, and a rich broth make this comforting one-pot meal perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
3 celery sticks, chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 lb lean ground beef
3 tablespoons flour
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
4 cups beef broth (add more if needed)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
2 Russet potatoes, peeled and diced
4 medium carrots, peeled and sliced
1 cup frozen peas (optional)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Optional Sides: Crusty bread, rice, garlic parmesan potatoes, or Mediterranean chickpea salad
Instructions
-
Prepare the base: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté chopped onion and celery for about 5 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.
-
Add garlic: Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
-
Brown the beef: Add lean ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until fully browned.
-
Thicken the stew: Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture and stir well to combine. This helps thicken the stew.
-
Add liquids and seasonings: Mix in tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir thoroughly.
-
Incorporate vegetables: Add diced potatoes and sliced carrots to the pot.
-
Simmer: Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 20–30 minutes until vegetables are tender.
-
Optional finishing touch: Add frozen peas during the last few minutes for extra color and texture.
-
Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot with crusty bread, over rice, or alongside a fresh salad. Garnish with parsley or grated cheese if desired.
Notes
For extra flavor, sprinkle fresh parsley on top before serving.
Customize by adding other vegetables like green beans or parsnips.
