Description

Enjoy these Mediterranean Chicken Gyros with creamy feta tzatziki! Juicy marinated chicken, warm pita bread, and a refreshing yogurt-feta sauce make this a perfect meal for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

500 g (1 lb) boneless, skinless chicken breasts

3 tbsp olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 tsp dried oregano

Salt & pepper, to taste

4 pieces pita bread

1 medium cucumber, grated (squeeze out excess water)

1 cup Greek yogurt

100 g (3.5 oz) crumbled feta cheese

2 tbsp fresh lemon juice

Optional toppings: sliced tomatoes, thinly sliced red onion, lettuce

Fresh parsley or extra feta for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken — In a bowl, combine olive oil, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Coat chicken breasts thoroughly and marinate at least 30 minutes (or up to overnight in the fridge).

  2. Preheat cooking surface — Heat a grill or heavy skillet over medium heat.

  3. Cook the chicken — Grill or pan-sear chicken 6–7 minutes per side, until cooked through (165°F / 74°C internal temperature).

  4. Rest the chicken — Let chicken rest 5 minutes before slicing.

  5. Slice chicken — Cut into thin strips.

  6. Make creamy feta tzatziki — In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, crumbled feta, and lemon juice. Season with salt & pepper. Chill briefly if desired.

  7. Warm the pita — Heat pita bread 10–20 seconds in microwave or 3–5 minutes at 350°F (175°C) in the oven.

  8. Assemble gyros — Place sliced chicken on warm pita, drizzle with creamy feta tzatziki, add optional toppings, fold, and serve immediately.

Notes

Marinating overnight enhances flavor.

Squeeze excess water from cucumber to prevent watery tzatziki.
